Abstract

A field project was undertaken at the Texas Tech. University, U.S.A., to obtain a reliable database of wind induced pressures on building surfaces. A 9.1 x 13.7 m x 4 m test building and 48.8 m meteorological tower were constructed in an open field. Wind speed, wind direction and building surface pressures were measured for a duration of 15 minutes when wind speeds exceeded 8.9 m/s. Computerized data acquisition, instrument installation and calibration are outlined. Preliminary terrain characteristics and pressure results obyained are given. The building has the potential for other types of research, e.g., building ventilation. (from authors' abstract)
