Abstract

A project is underway at Texas Tech University to acquire wind and building surface pressure data in the field. Objectives of the project are to obtain a reliable data base for external pressures on a building surface and internal pressures in the building. The paper describes the planning of the field site, the instrumentation, and the data acquisition system. A building of dimensions 30 multiplied by 45 multiplied by 12 ft (9. 1 multiplied by 13. 7 multiplied by 3. 7 m) will be constructed on a circular track so that it can be rotated. A 100 ft tall meteorological tower will collect wind speed and wind direction data at four levels as well as temperature, barometric pressure and relative humidity. Building surface pressures and internal pressure will be recorded using differential pressure transducers.
