Abstract
This collection of poems won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry, selected by Christopher Buckley. The book is rendered in the voice of a young man growing up on farms in Iowa and, as he matures, travels to Spain and falls in love. The poems reflect on naturalistic rural beauty, coming of age, and snapshots of Spanish town life. The book engages and unites the different worlds the author has straddled: the rural and the urban, the familiar and the foreign, the artistic and the agrarian.
