Abstract
This article presents results from an experimental study of in-service rectangular window sized fully tempered glass to determine failure strength of two sample sets simply supported on four sides. The specimens were loaded to failure in accordance to ASTM E997 while recording load and deflection time histories. Residual compressive surface stress measurements recorded before testing in accordance to ASTM C1048 with both a LCD-GASP and a SCALP-04 are also presented. Measurement variations between the two devices are presented and discussed. The sample failure loads are translated to 3-sec duration equivalent failure loads and compared to contemporary international glass strength standards.
