Abstract

This paper presents results from analysis of data collected from a field study of 51 Kaizen events in six manufacturing organizations. Despite their popularity as an organizational improvement mechanism, there has been little systematic empirical research on the determinants of Kaizen event effectiveness. Thus, there is little empirical evidence of what relationships exist between the numerous - and sometimes conflicting - design suggestions and event outcomes. This paper focuses on the assessment of the psychometric properties of perceptual measures used in a field study of Kaizen events. A valid and reliable set of perceptual measures are identified and summarized.
