    Abstract

The El Paso Solar Pond project was initiated in July, 1983 when an existing, 3-meter deep water storage pond located at Bruce Foods Corporation in El Paso was found to be suitable for conversion to a solar pond. The 3355 m**2 El Paso Solar Pond has recently established two milestones for solar ponds in the U. S. In September, 1986, 85 degree C brine from the pond began supplying energy for the boiler of a 100 kw organic Rankine cycle (ORC) engine-generator. In June, 1987, 89 degree C brine was also supplied to a 19,000 liters/day (5000 gal/day) multi-stage desalination system.
