Eigenvalue comparison for tubular domains

Abstract

S. Y. Cheng’s eigenvalue comparison theorem for geodesic balls is generalized to certain tubular domains. This gives application to the infinitesimal volume comparison theory developed by E. Heintze and H. Karcher as well as A. Gray.
