This study utilized content analysis to analyze the prior work experiences of newly hired public community college presidents. The purpose was to determine if community colleges hire their own for their top leadership roles. A total of 102 new community college presidents were hired between 2010 and 2012 across the United States. Data were collected through the public Internet, which included vitas, resumes, biographies, and media communications of new community college presidents. Content analysis was used to analyze these documents to determine prior work experiences and education levels of the presidents. The results of the study indicated that a large majority of community colleges hire presidents who have extensive community college insider experience.
