Abstract
Techniques were developed to accurately and quickly determine the polyester content of cotton/polyester blends. Six fabric and numerous fiber blend levels were used to develop the methodology. Samples were dyed using sublimation techniques and disperse dyes. Reflectance data were utilized to develop simple linear regression equations capable of predicting polyester content. Analytical results obtained using the newly developed techniques satisfied the plus or minus 3 percent limits prescribed by the Federal Trade Commission.
