Abstract
All facets of the tourism industry encouner risk from potential and/or disasters. Development of appropriate crisis/disaster management skills, planning are essential if such risk is to be minimized. While research has reported on lessons learned from recent incidents that have impacted the tourism industry, little has been done to study the skills required for leaders and managers to successfully deal with crisis. This study validates the previously reported leadership and/or management skills required for effective disaster management and underscores the necessity for comprehensive, on-going crisis/disaster management planning and training.
