Abstract

A bilaterally coupled oscillator array based on monolithic LC-VCOs fabricated in a 0.18μm SiGe BiCMOS process is presented. Using a 3 element 1-D VCO array, the effects of external ac-coupling methods are tested and the results of the self-locked network are discussed. The operating frequency band of this coupled VCO array is 1.705-2.065 GHz. The coupling between each oscillator is based on passive components and can be changed in discrete steps on the printed circuit board (PCB). The results of this study offer insight in RF coupled VCO array dynamics for potential phased-array radar applications.
