Abstract

It is shown that configuration mixing in the shell model due to residual two-body interactions is important and, in particular, leads to contributions from core excitations. It is possible to fit the elastic electron scattering data for not too large momentum transfers with a single oscillator parameter and reasonable values for the strength of the residual interaction.
