Abstract

2010 marked the 20th anniversary of German reunification and the establishment of October 3 as the national holiday, “Tag der deutschen Einheit” (“Day of German Unity”). Professors John Hollins and Kathy McNeil represented Texas Tech University–College of Visual and Performing Arts–School of Music in presenting a major concert in

Quedlinburg, Germany, on the Day of German Unity. Civic leadership of the region, national press, and representatives from the German Consulate in Berlin were in attendance at this special occasion. A program of musical repertoire for voice and piano, representing a variety of genres and styles, was presented at the Blasiikirche, one of the most significant Romanesque structures of the city and now a permanent hall for exhibits and musical performances. This performance brought Texas Tech University into the focus of the cultural leadership of this region of Germany, highlighting the interaction and exchange between the university, the Stadt of Quedlinburg and its political leaders, and the Federal State of Sachsen-Anhalt.
