Abstract

The 2019 publication of The Configuration of the Spanish Publish Spherecomes at a perfect moment to shed some light on the oftentimes hidden histories of some of the most commonplace of assumptions about politics and society in Spain. This volume edited by David Jiménez Torres and Leticia Villamediana González is a collaboration of scholars from the fields of history, political science, gender studies, literature and cultural studies and spans from the eighteenth-century Enlightenment to the present day. The two overarching questions posed in the volume are 1) what is the public sphere?; and 2) how has it operated in Spain? This volume combines innovative transnational theoretical and philosophical approaches as well as data-driven analyses to provide a number of answers.
