Abstract
National data indicates that community colleges enroll the highest percentage of Black students in higher education. Prior research suggested that increased sense of belonging promoted positive student outcomes and increased persistence of students within two-year campuses. To better understand what contributes to their sense of belonging, the authors utilized structural equation modeling, and data from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), to explore the relationship between constructs of faculty engagement, students support services, and social support on enrollment satisfaction and sense of belonging. Results indicated that all three constructs contributed to increases in Black students’ sense of belonging and enrollment satisfaction.
