Abstract

Maestro Jorge Mejia Medina, conductor of the Orquesta Filarmonica de Honduras, invited Professor Kathy McNeil and Professor Gregory Brookes to appear as soprano and baritone soloist in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in the Honduran cities of Tegucigalpa, Copan and Siguatepeque. The concert in Copan celebrated the end of the Mayan calendar and was covered by the national media. The Canadian Consulate attended the concerts in Tegucigalpa. The overwhelming success of this activity has generated a substantial awareness of Texas Tech University as a leading educational institution in the United States and abroad.
