Abstract
Authentic leadership is a pattern of leader behavior that includes self-awareness, balanced processing of information, relational transparency with followers, and an internalized moral perspective. Authentic leader-follower relationships arise when both leaders and their followers remain true to their inner thoughts, beliefs, and experiences. Empirical research has established positive relationships between authentic leadership and positive individual (e.g., engagement, job satisfaction, job performance), group (e.g., teamwork), and organizational (e.g., financial performance) outcomes.
