Abstract

Among the problems associated with industrial utilization of aqueous phase oxidation are the limited solubility of some organics and reaction rates which are slow (order of hours for many compounds at typical reaction conditions). This suggests reaction rate enhancement techniques which have been applied to m-xylene, a sparingly soluble organic. This information may suggest new approaches which will ultimately improve the economics of aqueous phase oxidation as a hazardous waste destruction technique.
