'Anisoptera' was fashioned after the wings of a dragonfly, which allows the dragonfly to hover and rapidly accelerate. The body of the dress is made from 100% silk dupioni, while the wings attached to the skirt are made from 100% silk organza.

Adobe Illustrator was used to design the vein pattern that would be printed onto the wings. This pattern was then burnt onto a screen using photo emulsion. The negative space of the wings was then printed using a 1-color screen print, creating amber wings and leaving the veins the original white color of the textile. Each wing was hand cut and a liquid binder was used to keep the edges from fraying.

The wings were attached to the skirt of the dress using a modified version of a French seam. Each wing was first placed on the surface of the fabric with the wing sitting to the left and the seam allowance pointing to the right. Next, it was stitched one-eighth inch away from the raw edge of the seam allowance. The wing was then pressed to the right, covering the seam allowance and raw edge of the fabric and stitched again at one-eighth inch. This sealed the raw edge underneath the wing. Finally, the wing was pressed back to the left to allow it to stand off the surface of the garment.
