Abstract

A three-dimensional analysis of cracks in adhesively bonded laminates, with debonding around the crack, is presented. The three-dimensional finite element method is based on a hybrid-stress procedure. Effects of the following parametric variations are studied: relative thicknesses of adhesives, relative material properties of adhesives and adherends, ratio of flaw length to laminate characteristic dimensions, and shape of debonded region.
