Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of the antibiotic chlortetracycline, CTC, (trade name Aureomycin from the American Cyanimid Co. ) on the methane production of swine manure. The effects of CTC concentration and retention time were investigated in order to determine this effect. Also, the addition of the raw antibiotic to an active fermenter was examined to determine how closely these effects matched those where the substrate manure already included the antibiotic.
