Abstract
This chapter focuses on the land market in Ukraine by providing a detailed description of current land laws. The main objective is twofold: to provide a descriptive analysis of current land legislation and policies in Ukraine, and to investigate how current land policies impact the technical efficiency of crop production in Ukraine. Two approaches are used to investigate the impact of land policy on the technical efficiency (TE) of the Ukrainian crop sector: stochastic frontier analysis and data envelopment analysis. Regions with high TE are examined in terms of land policies. Leasing is a common practice in Ukraine, and the extent to which agricultural enterprises versus farming enterprises lease/rent farm land significantly impacts efficiency. The amount of land leased by all types of agricultural enterprises increases TE of crop production.
