A washboard with moment of inertia model of gas-surface scattering

Abstract

A washboard with moment of inertia (WBMI) model of gas atom scattering off a flexible surface such as self-assembled monolayer (SAM) surface was proposed. This model was a direct extension of the washboard model, which was proposed for gas atom scattering from relatively rigid and moderately corrugated surfaces. Both models were based on simple physical constructs and both reproduce essential trends found in experiments and in realistic molecular dynamics simulations.
