Developments in the structural modelling and analysis of riser systems over the past two decades are reviewed. More realistic numerical aproaches have been achieved. The options reviewed include two and three dimensional, linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic modelling methods. Numerical solution techniques appropriate to the various approaches are presented and compared. A substantial bibliography is appended.
