Abstract

A mathematical model for the simulation of a localized measles epidemic is presented along with a computer simulation based on this model. The simulation results are compared with the results of a measles outbreak which occured at Texas Tech University. The effectiveness of the vaccination program undertaken during the Texas Tech epidemic and the effect of altering the level of herd immuninityare also considered.
