Abstract

The periodic shedding of vortices from bluff body geometries was predicted with a 2-D finite-difference code. Two geometrical configurations were considered: a flat plate in uniform flow and a flat plate near a ground plane. Strouhal numbers and aerodynamic force coefficients were computed for all geometries considered and these results compare well with experimental results from the literature. The results indicate that the code is capable of predicting periodic vortex shedding for the geometries tested.
