Abstract

Purpose- This research paper is intended to compares and contrast the finding of the empirical studies which were conducted in both the UK and the US on the impacts of an among a few sensory environmental parameters mainly visual and acoustical stimuli and individual’s behaviour and performance in school buildings. Design/methodologies/approach- Analysis of teaching layouts and the sequence of activities in selected school buildings have been conducted... A focus group based on teachers and carers working with individuals on Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was initially formulated. This was to enable practical insight into extent of the sensory problems associated with the existing teaching settings highlighting any design impediments/mismatch associated with the current layout, any operational issues of concern and points of significance to emerge as much as to allow to elicit users’ opinion and comments by their own words.
