Abstract

The first example of a mononuclear boron dication has been prepared and isolated as the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate) salt of its 2,2′-bipyridine complex. The compound [(HC(CMe) 2 (NC 6 F 5 ) 2 (bipy)B][OTf] 2 (1) was prepared by treatment of the β-diketiminate-supported boron bis(trifluoromethylsulfonate) [(HC(CMe) 2 (NC 6 F 5 ) 2 B(OTf) 2 ] (2) with 2,2′-bipyridine. The X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 2 were determined, and DFT calculations were performed on 1 and [(HC(CMe) 2 (NC 6 F 5 ) 2 B] 2+ . Copyright © 2007 American Chemical Society.
