Abstract

The first example of a mononuclear boron dication has been prepared and isolated as the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate) salt of its 2,2′-bipyridine complex. The compound [(HC(CMe)₂(NC₆F₅)₂(bipy)B][OTf]₂ (1) was prepared by treatment of the β-diketiminate-supported boron bis(trifluoromethylsulfonate) [(HC(CMe)₂(NC₆F₅)₂B(OTf)₂] (2) with 2,2′-bipyridine. The X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 2 were determined, and DFT calculations were performed on 1 and [(HC(CMe)₂(NC₆F₅)₂B]²⁺.
